Tsabedze in the sources

Tsabedze is a name on our own planning list of Swati clans. We searched three standard sources and found no entry for it.

What the sources say

What we searched. The full text of Bonner’s history of the Swazi state (1983), Bryant’s Olden Times (1929) and Soga’s South-Eastern Bantu (1930), under Tsabedze and the variants Tshabedze, Tsabede. None of the three has an entry or a passage on a clan of this name.

Cautions

This page is therefore still a listing. We would rather say so than fill it with material we cannot source. We searched the full text of Bryant (1929), Soga (1930) and Bonner (1983) under the spellings given here and under likely variants; absence from these books says nothing about whether the family is old or important, only that these three sources are silent.

Izithakazelo and totem

If you belong to the Tsabedze and can tell us where the family came from, its praises and its totem, we will record it, credited to you.

Know a story that isn't here yet?

A lot of this history still lives only in rondavels and in people's memories. If you know a clan praise, totem or story passed down around the fire, we want to add it, properly verified and credited to you.
